About

“We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel…is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.”
― Ursula K. LeGuin

About Me

Hello! My name is Bailey Potter, and I adore reading fantasy and young adult books in my free time, taking long walks through the forests of the Pacific Northwest, and buying too many plants.

In addition to working for Beyond Words Publishing as their Assistant to the Publisher & Creative Director, I am a freelance editor, usually working through Indigo Editing, Design & More. Genres like fantasy, speculative fiction, young adult, and historical fiction are my bread and butter, but I am happy to work on any genre of fiction. That being said, I also have experience with nonfiction and literary fiction.

I received my Bachelor of Arts at Portland State University in Arts & Letters, with minors in English and Medieval Studies. Upon hearing that PSU had a graduate program in publishing, I wholeheartedly joined and pursued my life-long passion for books. I received my Master of Science in Writing and Book Publishing, specializing in editing and design, and was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. My graduate research paper, The Influence of Ursula K. Le Guin, was published on PDX Scholar.

During my time as a graduate student, I worked for Ooligan Press as the Project Manager of the Library Writers Project team. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of interning for Overcup Press and freelancing for Forest Avenue Press, City Owl Press, and Underland Press. I’d be happy to freelance for you!

Please see my portfolio for details of my work. See praise here.

All people are humans. All humans have words. All words deserve to be heard. I am here for both the humans and the words.
